Day 9

Again, rain rain and more rain. More playing, more English classes, and more trying very hard to find something to do. I basically spot cleaned the building today just to keep myself busy.

One very productive thing that did happen today was Juan, the guy who owns the construction company here in Nuevo Laredo, came by and gave me all the prices for materials. He is also letting us use his tools and a lot of his materials for free. The guy is really smart and is incredibly nice for all that he is doing. He has even volunteered to bring most of the materials across the border himself at no cost. I honestly don´t even know if we could get it done without his help.

Hopefully we can get some work done after church tomorrow. It has now reached an all time record high precipitation count for Nuevo Laredo and is not supposed to stop for a couple of days...

Day 8

Another day of rain and another day of getting next to no work done. Most of the girls didn´t have school so it meant a full day of just playing with the girls and taking siestas. The rain is nice for the heat problem, but it is seriously putting a damper on our work.

A lot of the girls have become interested in taking advantage of my ¨English classes¨ and have joined in with the group. I go through their English homework with them and come up with vocabulary lists. In fact, I gave one of the sisters her first exam tonight and she only got two of 56 words wrong. I was very impressed!

I can definitely tell we are into the inner circle now. They stay up after the girls have gone to sleep and laugh and joke with us about anything and everything. Madre Heno has a sense of humor that is extremely effective, but very intimidating. She acts very stern to set up the jokes - I can´t tell if she´s upset or if she´s joking - and then comes the laughs - mostly at me for getting worried that she was serious.

Other than that its kind of slow. I´m still waiting on the rain to stop so I can get out to the Colonias and so we can get started on the preparation for the Palapa.
